EU/Vietnam Free Trade Agreement: entry into force postponed to 2020?

The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (FTA) concluded at the end of 2015 is not expected to enter into force until the end of 2019.

Expected for more than 3 years by European and Vietnamese economic operators (cf.EU/Vietnam Free Trade Agreement: Implementation in 2018?), the entry into force of this FTA is still pending... and no firm date is announced to date!

The reason given is that the European Union and Vietnam have failed to finalize the translation and legal verification of the text....

However, it cannot be submitted to the European Parliament until the May 2019 break for the European elections: therefore, the vote by the new elected parliamentarians should not be on the agenda until the 4th quarter 2019!

In addition, Vietnam is still not fulfilling its labour law and environmental protection obligations (cf.EU/Vietnam FTA: free trade and CSR... the big gap?) : it is therefore likely that the EU/Vietnam free trade agreement (EVFTA)does not enter into force until 2020.
