EU/United Arab Emirates Trade Agreement: Negotiations are officially launched!
Press release published on 28 May confirmed the beginning of the rounds of negotiations between the EU and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the aim of achieving a bilateral free trade agreement between the two parties.
The United Arab Emirates expressed its willingness to establish bilateral trade relations with the EU, independently of negotiations with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
From now on, the negotiators of the two parties will meet regularly in cycles spaced by a few months and will deal with chapters which will constitute the terms of the agreement:
- Market access (goods, services)
- Customs duties
- Investment
- Intellectual property
- Digital commerce
- Sustainable development
This partnership aims to strengthen economic relations between the two sides, focusing on strategic sectors such as renewable energy, digital technologies, artificial intelligence and green hydrogen.
This pact with the United Arab Emirates would be added to the 44 trade agreements already concluded by Brussels with 76 countries, the largest network of trade agreements in the world.
